Security Operation Launched to Combat Migrant Criminal Gangs and Smugglers in Panama

As part of the “Shield” campaign, Panama security officials launched a security operation that will combat the increasing number of migrant criminal gangs and smugglers on a shared border with Colombia.

Following the launching of the security operation, several authorities, including immigration agents and police, will be securing the border every day to prevent migrant gangs and smugglers from entering, AP News reported.

The security operation included new military weapons and additional helicopters, which will be a great help to protect the Panama borders from unwanted migrant criminals despite the suggestions to just close the borders.

Security Operation Launched Following Series of Suspected Migrant Gangs and Smugglers in Panama Borders

The security operation was launched after a series of suspected migrant gangs and smugglers were discovered by the authorities, who recently reported an encounter where three among the nine suspected robbing migrants were killed.

The recent encounter between authorities and alleged migrant criminals was only one of several encounters and shooting incidents that have already happened in the Panama borders, which alarmed the officials and prompted them to launch a security operation at the border.
