Crazy Rich Asians were released four years ago, and it’s still going strong. Is there any new information on the sequel? Let’s take a look and see what we can learn.
It’s hard to think Crazy Rich Asians has been out for four years. This touching romantic comedy expertly explored what happens when family and love intersect. Crazy Rich Asians was a big thing for Hollywood because it was the first major studio film with a majority Asian cast in decades. The film went on to receive rave reviews and a staggering $240 million in worldwide box office receipts.
With all of the hype and positive reviews, Warner Bros. was understandably considering making a sequel based on Kevin Kwan’s next novel, China Rich Girlfriend, the third installment of the trilogy. Rich People Problems, the third novel, is even planned to be adapted for the big screen.
However, considering how hazy the development for the second portion has been, talking about the third part seems pointless. The sequel was originally scheduled to be released in 2020, with the same cast returning. However, the delay was largely caused by a few behind-the-scenes issues. Let’s see how Crazy Rich Asians 2 is coming along now that the original film has been released for four years.
Potential Release Date
Because of the latest screenwriting changes, the picture is unlikely to begin production until late 21 Dec 2022 or Jan 2023, putting the trailer release and release date in 2023 at the earliest.

Crazy Rich Asians 2 Plot
Rachel recommits to Nick, who proposed with his mother’s wedding ring as Rachel was boarding a plane back to America, and Crazy Rich Asians picked up with a wedding proposal. Rachel and Nick are planning a wedding in the United States when China Rich Girlfriend picks up two years later.
That is, until Rachel’s long-lost father, a wealthy Chinese millionaire, is discovered by Nick’s mother. Nick’s cousin Astrid (Gemma Chan) and her restored romance with ex-boyfriend Charlie (Glee’s Harry Shum Jr.), who appears in a Crazy Rich Asians mid-credits scene, are also believed to be key to the sequel. Kitty Pong (Fiona Xie), who made a brief appearance in the first film, will almost certainly have a major role in Crazy Rich Asians 2 as she marries a wealthy family in order to rehabilitate herself after years as a soap-opera actor.

Who Will Appear in the Sequel?
Most, if not all, of the main cast members from the original film, are expected to return for the sequel. Wu and Golding are among the Asian stars included in the film, along with Gemma Chan, Michelle Yeoh, Awkwafina, and a slew of others.
However, in addition to the returning characters, Kwan’s sequel introduces a number of new characters who did not appear in the previous film. Carlton Bao, Rachel’s brother, who appears in the sequel to further complicate the family dynamic, is one of the most significant. The introduction of Colette Bing, a Chinese blogger who is always dressed to impress, is more important. Fashion played a key role in the first film in the series, and it will most certainly continue to do so in the sequels. Collette will most certainly look stunning if her part remains significant. There hasn’t been any casting news for any role as of yet.
