Qualification Criteria for Virginia Tax Rebate

To get the Virginia Tax Rebate, individuals must meet statutory requirements. Individual filers may receive a $200 one-time rebate, while couples filing jointly may receive $400. Taxpayers must file their 2022 state returns by November 1, 2023, and show a tax liability.

Additionally, it’s crucial to note that the maximum rebate amount remains capped at $400, regardless of the taxes paid in the preceding year. While Virginia’s individual income tax filing deadline is May 1, an automatic 6-month extension for filing exists.

However, individuals solely receiving Social Security, Disability, or Unemployment checks do not meet the eligibility criteria. Moreover, those with an adjusted gross income below $11,950 (below $23,900 for family filers) are ineligible for the rebate as they owe no taxes.

 Distribution Process of Rebate Checks

Governor Glenn Youngkin has announced the commencement of the Virginia tax rebate check distribution process this week throughout Virginia. The distribution will follow a staggered schedule, with most eligible taxpayers anticipated to receive their payments by November 7.

Taxpayers receiving state tax refunds through direct deposit this year will likely have their rebates deposited into the same bank account. Conversely, individuals who did not opt for direct deposit will receive rebates via paper checks mailed to their registered addresses.
