Thomasville City Council Proposes to Implement Property Tax and Raise Utility Rates for Residents Due to Lack of Funds

Thomasville City Council proposed to implement a property tax and raise utility rates for residents several years after eliminating property taxes in the city, wherein the Thomasville City Council has seen the lack of funding sources for the General Fund, providing a lack of better services for the residents.

With the elimination of the property tax, Thomasville City Council eventually saw how it affected the projects’ funding and improvements, which led to the decision of Thomasville City Council to implement the property tax again and increase utility rates.

Following the proposal to implement a property tax and increase in utility rates, Thomasville City Council claimed that the decision would provide the city with a better financial position and increase the long-term funds to support several projects in the city, Times-Enterprise reported.

According to a report published in Yahoo News, Thomasville City Council wanted to have the property tax despite the inflation and increasing cost of living in the city as it will support infrastructure projects.
