According to The News Tribune, Tacoma, Washington, is poised to roll out a marked change guaranteed-income program offering select families a monthly stipend of $500 for 12 months with no strings attached. Designed to supplement incomes and enhance financial stability the Growing Resilience in Tacoma (GRIT) project is a collaborative endeavor involving the City of Tacoma, Washington State Economic Services Administration, Pierce County, and United Way of Pierce County. Scheduled to commence on March 1st, applications for this initiative aim to address poverty by bolstering economic stability, housing security, and mental well-being among participating families. A total of 175 randomly selected households within eligible zip codes (98404, 98405, 98408, 98409, 98418, 98444, or 98445) will receive $500 monthly with no strings attached provided they meet specific criteria. Eligibility mandates single-parent households with children under the age of 17 (or 21 with a disability), residing within designated zip codes, and meeting the Asset-Limited, Income-Constrained while Employed criteria set by United Way. Income thresholds require participants earn above 100% and below 200% of the Federal Poverty Line for their household size, ensuring assistance reaches those in genuine need with no strings attached.
