According to Martin City and South Kc The Telegraph, Jackson County has unveiled its latest initiative aimed at aiding senior residents in managing property tax payments with the introduction of the Senior Property Tax Credit in Jackson County Program. Authorized under the umbrella of Senate Bill 190, this Senior Property Tax Credit in Jackson County program offers eligible individuals the opportunity to freeze their property tax bills providing much-needed financial relief and stability. Jackson County Executive, Frank White, Jr., expressed the county’s dedication to supporting its senior population highlighting the program as a crucial step towards enhancing their overall quality of life.

Application and Renewal Process for Senior Property Tax Credit in Jackson County Program

The eligibility criteria for the program are outlined under state law specifying that Jackson County residents eligible for Social Security retirement benefits and meeting specific property ownership requirements may apply. The tax credit amount is determined by the year of application approval establishing a base amount for future property tax bills subject to changes in eligibility. Applicants must declare only one primary residence which must be occupied by the eligible resident and the property’s market value must not exceed $550,000, as mandated by the Jackson County Legislature. As applications open for the Senior Property Tax Credit in Jackson County program, eligible residents are encouraged to seize the opportunity for financial relief by submitting their applications and supporting documentation by December 31 of each year. Successful applicants will witness the benefits of the tax credit reflected on their property tax bills starting in 2025. Renewal applications are required annually by August 31 to maintain participation in the Senior Property Tax Credit in Jackson County program, underscoring the county’s commitment to ensuring continued support for its senior population.
