State seeking aid with the Pennsylvanians property tax/rent rebate program can now benefit from in-person assistance provided by the Department of Revenue (DOR). This initiative especially aimed at those newly eligible for the PTRR program due to this year’s expansion aims to simplify the filing process for applicants. As the historic PTRR program sees a surge of 175,000 newly eligible individuals, Revenue Secretary Pat Browne emphasizes the importance of face-to-face conversations for guidance through the Property Tax/Rent Rebate Application Form and tax return procedures.
In-Person Assistance and Program Expansion
The DOR is extending hands-on help at local community centers to aid Pennsylvanians in filing their property tax/rent rebate application forms. The move is a response to the increased demand following the PTRR program expansion with staff stationed in Mahanoy City and Shamokin throughout February.
Secretary Pat Browne underscores the significance of experienced representatives guiding seniors through the filing process, acknowledging the varied needs of the community. The department’s efforts this year focus on providing more in-person opportunities recognizing the value of personal assistance during the tax season.
Applicants seeking assistance with the PA Property Tax/Rent Rebate application forms (PA-1000) are encouraged to review eligibility guidelines outlined by the PTRR Program. The new claim season launched on January 16, 2024 benefits seniors aged 65 and older widows and widowers aged 50 and older and individuals with disabilities aged 18 and older.

Tax Filing Support and Important Reminders
In Mahanoy City and Shamokin, DOR staff will be available at specific community centers during February. However, inclement weather may impact the assistance schedule highlighting the importance of flexibility in planning.
Taxpayers needing help with the Pennsylvania personal income tax return (PA-40) are reminded to bring essential documents, including income statements, photo identification, and Social Security cards for efficient processing. The reminder emphasizes the April 15 deadline for filing, especially for those with total gross taxable income exceeding $33 in 2023. The DOR’s commitment to assisting the community is evident in their efforts to provide both online and in-person support during the tax season.
