Maine DHHS Secures 30-Day Extension for SNAP Recipients Affected by Hurricane; Replacement Benefits Available
After losing food or power, SNAP recipients had 10 days to seek replacement benefits. Due to the hurricane, DHHS requested and obtained a 30-day extension from the USDA to serve better individuals affected.
Replacement compensation may be available to SNAP recipients who lost food due to power outages, flooding, or other storms. Report losses to DHHS by January 18, 2024. Please fill out a quick DHHS internet form and email it to [email protected] to apply. Local DHHS offices have paper forms.
SNAP’s lost food value or one month’s benefit determines the replacement benefit. Maine citizens recovering from the hurricane are the target of this extension.

Maine DHHS Extends SNAP Benefits Deadline for Storm-Impacted Residents; GA Assistance Available
SNAP and GA are available for storm-related needs. If someone reports an emergency, municipal GA administrators may deem them eligible for emergency assistance. Food shortages or other storm-related problems may qualify as emergencies. City and town offices accept GA applications. If you can’t reach your local GA administrator, call 1-800-442-6003 for help.
After the hurricane, SNAP participants struggle to recover from food losses, so this extension is vital. DHHS prioritizes helping people in emergencies and providing services.
