Costco is set to continue its global expansion in 2024 with plans to open six new stores, strengthening its presence in the United States and entering the Chinese market. The Seattle-based retailer’s ambitious expansion strategy includes locations in Shenzhen, China, Southfield, Michigan, Anchorage, Alaska, Daytona, Florida, Natomas, California, and Loomis, California.
US Expansion and International Foray into China
Costco‘s growth in the United States includes the opening of new Business Centers in Southfield, Michigan, and Anchorage, Alaska, in January and February 2024, respectively. Additionally, traditional warehouse stores are set to open in Daytona, Florida, Natomas, California, and Loomis, California, in the following months.
Marking a significant move, Costco is expanding its footprint in China with the opening of a store in Shenzhen in January 2024. This aligns with the retailer’s commitment to global expansion, tapping into the vast consumer market in China.
In 2023, Costco successfully opened 24 new stores globally, with a focus on the US market, where 15 new locations were introduced. The company’s strategic expansion plan positions it as a key player in the competitive retail landscape.

Continued Global Presence
Costco maintains its membership-based shopping model, requiring customers to be paying members to shop at any of its warehouses. However, non-members can purchase prescriptions from Costco pharmacies or use a Costco Shop Card to make purchases, with the latter being available only to members.
With nearly 1000 stores worldwide, Costco remains committed to its mission of providing value to customers through its expanding network of warehouses. The retailer’s approach to growth reflects its adaptability to evolving consumer needs and preferences.
