$85,000 Settlement: For Discrimination Claims Accused To Micron Technology

Chipmaker, Micron Technology has settled with the U.S. Justice Department over the allegations of immigration-related employment discrimination.

The department said that Micron violated the Immigration and Nationality Act (INA) by hiring a temporary visa worker employee instead of a U.S. citizen for the position in their company. Some U.S Citizen applicants complained about Micron’s unfair employment policy on his citizenship status. While investigating the Justice Department found out the company wants to a temporary visa worker that hired a U.S. citizen for the position and ignored the citizen’s qualifications.

According to them, the company discriminates against some job applicants in their procedure of hiring because they prefer to hire different citizenship rather than their own people in the country.

$85,000 Settlement: Micron Technology Payment For Discrimination Claims

For an unlawful act, Micron Technology will pay a civil penalty in the United States and offers a total of $85,000 to the affected worker. The company will also train its staff on the anti-discrimination provision of the INA, they will also change the company policies and hiring procedures and will be subjected to departmental monitoring for 2 years. Micron Technology did not immediately respond to comment to any of the requests of settlement and they denied the allegations and said they did not commit any wrongdoings.
