In order to focus on their “personal lives,” the members of Metronomy have decided to postpone the North American leg of their planned tour in support of this year’s ‘Small World’ album.
The band said on Instagram that they are taking some time off before an “exhausting” forthcoming tour because they were exhausted from playing at festivals all summer.
To “North America and Canada,” they addressed their letter. I’m afraid I have some awful news to share.
We Regret to Announce that Our October Tour Has Been Postponed
Not doing so would violate our commitment to honesty and integrity. We feel it is important to offer an explanation.
“Touring in America is one of the most thrilling things a band can do,” Metronomy said. Every vacation we’ve taken to the United States since our first one in 2006 has been fantastic. These places have it all: awe-inspiring architecture, friendly locals, and the best dive pubs in the world. the people, you guys are great!
On the other hand, playing a few major cities in America might take a band months and a lot of money.
Next, the message explained, “When you’re a young band, that time spent touring the States is the only way that you would want to spend it. As you get older and wiser, though, you begin to value time at home with family more highly than time spent on the road.
“I’m afraid it doesn’t make any sense for us to come at the moment. After a year of nonstop performances and festivals, we need to devote more energy to our personal life.
“We want to apologies to all the fans who have bought tickets to see us and for the short notice of this news, we hope you appreciate that changing the tour truly isn’t something we want to do, but it’s the only practical thing for us to do right now,” they wrote.
See here for the newly scheduled tour dates for the year 2023. Their shows in The Wiltern in Los Angeles on October 27 and the Pepsi Centre in Mexico City on October 29 will go on as scheduled.
The announcement followed Santigold’s high-profile cancellation of her planned Holified tour this week, for which she cited price increases and the altered nature of concert-going in the wake of the global pandemic as reasons. Many artists, including Arlo Parks, Wet Leg, and Sam Fender, postponed or cancelled their US tour dates because of mental exhaustion.
What Did Metronomy’s Joe Mount Tell NME?
Metronomy’s Joe Mount told NME at Glastonbury 2022 that the band was working on a new EP full of collaborations, and he mentioned it in June.
When we asked Mount what the future held for the band, he said, “I did an EP called ‘Posse,’ which is all collaborations.” I’m now creating a new one of those.
Radar favourites like Biig Piig, Spill Tab, Pinty, Folly Group, and Brian Nasty were all featured on the most recent EP, along with up-and-comers like Sorry. Joe explained to NME around the time ‘Posse’ came out that he was interested in participating since “some of the seminal albums I listened to growing up were guest-studded, so it’s always been something I’ve been interested in.”
