While the Byrdes narrative is the focus of Ozark’s conclusion, many viewers are still concerned about what became of infant Zeke.

In this second installment of Season 4, we explain how young Zeke became embroiled in the drug battle and what ultimately became of him.

Ozark is a crime drama created by Chris Mundy, Bill Dubuque, and Mark Williams and starring Jason Bateman, Laura Linney, Sofia Hublitz, Julia Garner, and others. It follows financial advisor Martin “Marty” Byrde as he becomes involved in a money-laundering operation with ties to the Mexican drug cartel and, later, the Kansas City Mafia.

History of Tiny Zeke

When Zeke’s parents, Pastor Mason Young and Grace Young, got caught up in the Byrdes’ money-laundering scheme in Season 1 of Ozark, the whole family got dragged into the Byrdes’ nasty business.

One of the more disturbing scenes of the episode was when Darlene Snell murdered Grace and abducted baby Zeke, and then Darlene tried to raise the child while Pastor Mason was out of the picture thanks to Marty’s elimination of the man.

The fate of newborn Zeke became cloudy once more when Javi murdered Darlene and Wyatt in Season 4, Episode 1.

Second Part of Season 4: What Happened to Baby Zeke?

After his parents were murdered, infant Zeke was used as a pawn by several parties until Season 4 Part Two. In Season 1 Episode 9, “Pick a God and Pray,” Ruth confronts Javi and makes the correct choice for baby Zeke.

In order to save Zeke from the drug war and give him a shot at a new life with a loving family, Ruth brings him to the police station to turn himself in and also provides a statement about the deaths of Darlene and Wyatt.

Showrunner Chris Mundy and streaming service Netflix agreed to end the show after Season 4, with Netflix opting to extend Season 4 rather than charging for the fifth season.

Mundy Made the Following Remarks to The Daily Beast

My intuition tells me that Netflix values improvisation and letting things go for as long as they feel they need it to in order to realize the story fully.

The creative team here didn’t expect it to last longer than five minutes. We had an idea of how we wanted the series to conclude emotionally, but we didn’t know the specifics of how many seasons would be ideal.

Mundy discussed the length of Ozark’s final episode with The Wrap again, this time explaining how he and Netflix came to that conclusion.

“Then Netflix came up with the brilliant notion of saying, ‘We’ll wrap up after season 4, but we’ll make it extensive. What we came up with, “We’ll divide it like this,” was just right.

This allowed us to make the first seven episodes of the second season feel like they belonged to the same whole, despite the fact that they are part of the same continuum. Right now, you can watch the second half of Season 4 of Ozark on Netflix.
