Game of Thrones viewers can expect more of the HBO series’ hallmark epic battles in the upcoming prequel series House of the Dragon, according to co-creator George R.R. Martin. Martin established the Game of Thrones universe and penned Fire & Blood, the novel on which the series is based.
Fans loved Game of Thrones because of its complicated and fascinating characters. Long-simmering plotlines were satisfied with epic confrontations like “The Battle of the Bastards” and “Hardhome.” House of the Dragon applies similar mathematics in its storytelling, according to a recent post to Martin’s “Not a Blog.”
George R.R Martin says “I viewed rough edits of a couple more episodes of HOUSE OF THE DRAGON” and I am Stunned
He said I was just as impressed as I had been with the earlier episodes.” “Ryan and Miguel, as well as their cast and crew, are doing an excellent job. I believe that those of you who enjoy complex, conflicted, grey characters (as I do) will enjoy this series. To be sure, there will be dragons and battles, but the story’s spine will be human struggles, love and hatred, character drama rather than action/adventure.”
The events of House of the Dragon take place 200 years before the events of Game of Thrones. It centers on House Targaryen, the royal family, in the days building up to “The Dance of Dragons,” a civil war. Despite sharing the same universe as Game of Thrones, series star Matt Smith told ComicBook.com that House of the Dragon is “something else.”
“To be honest with you,” Smith continues, “I think it’s incredibly different from the first series.” “It has to be, right? The first series was unique in its own right, and it was so good that it left an indelible impact that would be impossible to duplicate. So, I’m not sure. To be honest, I haven’t seen any, so it’s a challenge for me. Although it is essentially in the same environment, it must adopt a little different identity. Who knows, though. I’m not sure.”

The Legend of the House of Dragons
According to the official synopsis for HBO’s House of the Dragon, “The Targaryen dynasty is at the pinnacle of its power in the prequel series, with more than 15 dragons under their control. Most empires, both actual and imagined, disintegrate when they reach such heights. The Targaryens’ long descent begins about 193 years before the events of Game of Thrones when King Viserys Targaryen defies a century of tradition by naming his daughter Rhaenyra as the Iron Throne’s heir. However, when Viserys has a son, the court is taken aback when Rhaenyra preserves her status as his heir, sowing seeds of dissension throughout the realm.”
