The film Black Adam, starring Dwayne Johnson in the lead role, will be released later this year.
Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson joins the DC movie universe as the complex comic book character in Black Adam. The film is certainly one of the most anticipated new releases for 2022. Speaking to Men’s Journal(opens in new tab), lead actor Dwayne Johnson explained how tough his training was for the next DC film, which follows the story of a lesser-known comic book character.
He said: “The training for this film was the most difficult I’ve ever done in my life. I can assure you that the power structure in the DC world is about to alter.” Here’s everything we know about Black Adam so far…
The release date for Black Adam
The film Black Adam will be released in theatres on October 21, 2022. It had initially been scheduled for July 29, but Warner Bros. rescheduled it as part of a larger rescheduling of DC superhero films. So we’ll have to wait a bit longer, but we’re confident it will be worth it!

What is the plot of Black Adam?
So far, all we know is that the film is a spin-off from the 2019 flick Shazam!, and it will follow the film’s anti-hero, Black Adam, as he breaks free from purgatory 5,000 years after he was imprisoned.
Like Shazam (aka Billy Baston), Black Adam’s powers came from the wizards of the Rock of Eternity, so while we don’t have any exact narrative elements yet, we do know what to expect from the new character.
According to DC Comics, Black Adam “used his power to pervert his beliefs and passions,” which led to his exile. He is now “a regular foe of Earth’s heroes,” but he “believes he is the appropriate person to lead humanity, and any action he does is required for the greater good.”
We’ll notify you as soon as we receive specific plot details for Black Adam!

Trailers and clips for the film Black Adam
The first trailer for Black Adam was shown at CinemaCon 2022 but was kept hidden from the general public. We poor humans who don’t own our own movie theatres had to wait until early June when Warner Bros. released the teaser online.
The trailer gives us our first glimpse at Doctor Fate (Pierce Brosnan), Atom Smasher (Noah Centineo), and Hawkman (Aldis Hodge), three members of the Justice Society of America. Plus, we get to see more of Dwayne Johnson in his black lightning bolt-infused outfit, blowing up a lot of stuff. Oh, and there’s a moment that looks just like it came from the first Iron Man film.
Back in October, a preview video featuring photos of Dwayne in full costume emerged at DC Fandom 2021. We also got to meet his supporting cast and saw a clip where he burns a guy’s skull to ash.
