While facts show that violence in the United States has actually decreased in recent years, many Americans believe the country is growing more violent than ever—and high-profile occurrences such as mobs rioting at the U.S. The fact that Capitol Hill and the Department of Homeland Security have issued a threat bulletin to warn of the persistent threat of domestic violence further adds to those concerns. So the timing of a new study exposing the country’s most unsafe neighborhoods from the risk assessment app Augurisk Now couldn’t be better.
Risky block in the United States
According to Forbes, Augurisk Now, which debuted last month, assists individuals in tracking the chances of crime and natural disasters, making it a valuable tool for everyone from travelers to concerned citizens to potential homebuyers.
The free software uses proprietary risk-scoring algorithms to tell users that they have entered a predicted or observed high crime area whenever they reach a risky block in the United States. Similarly, the app can forecast threats such as floods, earthquakes, wildfires, and storms.
Augurisk evaluated its data and released a study on the most dangerous areas in the United States by looking at Census block groups, a statistical grouping of tracts that typically comprise 600 to 3,000 individuals. Augurisk then calculated violent crime occurrences and rates (per 100,000 residents) for each Census block group.
