American actor Zachary David Alexander Efron was born on October 18, 1987 (IPA: /frn/). He made his professional acting debut in the early 2000s, but he didn’t become a household name until his portrayal as Troy Bolton in the High School Musical films (2006–2008).
Early Life
As a child, Efron lived in San Luis Obispo, but his family eventually relocated to the nearby town of Arroyo Grande. Both of his parents work at Diablo Canyon Power Plant; David Efron is an electrical engineer and Starla Baskett is an administrative assistant.
Having a “regular childhood” in a middle-class family, Efron grew up with his younger brother Dylan and younger paternal half-sister Olivia. His last name has Jewish roots. Efron’s paternal grandpa is Jewish, and he also identifies as Jewish, despite his upbringing as an atheist and nonbeliever.
Career
He also had roles in the musical Hairspray (2007) and the comedy 17 Again (2009) during this time (2009). New Year’s Eve (2011), The Lucky One (2012), The Paperboy (2012), Neighbors (2014), Dirty Grandpa (2016), Baywatch (2017), and The Greatest Showman (2017) were some of the films in which Efron starred that propelled him to stardom (2017).
In the film Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil, and Vile, he played the role of serial killer Ted Bundy (2019). In the year 2021, he received a Daytime Emmy Award for his Netflix web documentary series titled Down to Earth with Zac Efron (2020–present).

Zac Effron Plastic Surgery
An incident nicknamed “Jaw-gate” is discussed in a recent interview with the actor. When Zac Efron shared a video with Bill Nye for Earth Day in April of last year, some people assumed he had plastic surgery to adjust his appearance for the occasion. The Australian friend of Efron spoke forward in his defense.
To be honest, no. The star of The Greatest Beer Run Ever recalls the incident, and in a recent interview with Men’s Health, he puts out the fires of speculation with a story that is both amusing and tragic.
As a result of all the preparation he’s put in for movies like Baywatch and Neighbors, Efron didn’t hurt himself in any way related to those roles.
His Jaw Apparently Fractured in The Riskiest Business Possible Fashion
When Efron was running about the house in his socks, he tripped and hit his chin on the granite fountain, knocking himself out. He recalls waking up to the sensation that his chin bone was hanging out of his face.
Efron has a history of major injuries, including a ruptured ACL, dislocated shoulder, fractured wrist, and strained back, so this break is hardly surprising. Of all the injuries, the broken jaw got the most attention and was the topic of most conversations.
Inflamed masseter muscles (responsible for opening the mouth to chew) are what caused Efron’s face to swell and change shape in the Earth Day video, he claims. The masseters, he recalls, “simply grew.” As the saying goes, “They just became really, really huge.”
Although Zac Efron did not use the term “Jaw-gate,” he seems to reference his involvement with the scandal by saying that ignoring online adulation is “just another day at the office.”
In his own words: “I absolutely wouldn’t be able to undertake this work if I appreciated what other people thought of me to the amount that they may think I do.”

Personal Life
Forbes ranked Efron at #92 on their 2008 Celebrity 100 list based on his estimated $5.8 million in earnings between the months of June 2007 and June 2008.
In April of 2009, his net worth was estimated to be around $10 million. Efron had a net worth of $18 million as of May 2015.
Although Us magazine claimed that Efron and Hudgens “met in 2005 while making the first High School Musical flick, and became a romantic item about two years later” after the couple split in December 2010, People magazine reported in 2007 that the two began dating in 2005 during the filming of High School Musical.
In September of 2014, Efron began dating model and businesswoman Sami Miró. The breakup occurred in April 2016.
Early in 2013, Efron sought help for his drinking and substance abuse. Since June 2013, he has maintained sobriety.
When Zac Efron fell down the stairs in his home and broke his jaw in November 2013, he needed to have it wired shut. A homeless man and Efron got into it in Skid Row in March of 2014. Seeing it as an act of mutual fighting, law enforcement officers did not make any arrests.
