After winning the 2022 and 2024 US Opens, Serena Williams said she had nothing to lose as she continues to develop her career. On Wednesday night, the American legend shocked the world by beating the number two player in the world, Anett Kontaveit.
Williams declared after the victory, “I’m just Serena.” “
This is where my skills really shine. The stakes for me are low. You’re aware that there’s no need to haste. I think this group of people is great. A tiny bit of energy is still left in me.
“I am a fierce competitor. Truly, I consider it a bonus. I have nothing to gain and nothing to lose by trying something new. Since 1999, I’ve had an ‘X’ tattooed on my back, and I’m finally getting around to appreciating it “she said
At Arthur Ashe Stadium, Williams stunned Kontaveit in a three-set thriller, with support from Tiger Woods and Venus. Not at all did 41-year-old Serena appear her age as she brought her A game to the court and performed like it was in 1999.
In the second round, Williams looked more relaxed and consistent than she did against Kontaveit in front of a record crowd of 29,959.

Career
The “Serena Slam” refers to the four consecutive major singles victories she won between the 2002 French Open and the 2003 Australian Open, all of which she won against Venus in the final.
Two more singles championships were hers to claim during the next four years, but she also experienced injury and a drop in performance. Despite lingering injuries, she began regaining her form in 2007 and once again climbed to the top of the singles rankings that year.
Williams’ comeback to dominance began at the 2012 Wimbledon Championships and continued as she won the Olympic gold medal and completed the first Career Golden Slam in singles and doubles tennis.
Increase in status for King Richard, retiring after stints at Eastbourne and Wimbledon Williams said in December 2021 that the same leg ailment would keep her out of the 2022 Australian Open. Since March of 2022, her position in the rankings has been 241.
She and her sisters spent the first months of 2022 busy spreading the word about King Richard, their late father. She made appearances at a number of galas, including the 94th Academy Awards.
In June of 2022, Williams teamed up with Ons Jabeur to compete in the Eastbourne International. Both Sara Sorribes Tormo and Marie Bouzková and Shuko Aoyama and Chan Hao-ching were eliminated prior to this pairing match.
Due to Jabeur’s ailment, the duo had to withdraw from the event. Williams, whose singles ranking had fallen to 1204, also accepted a wildcard to compete in the 2022 Wimbledon Championships. Her first-round match against Harmony Tan lasted over three hours, making it the longest in the event so yet.

Personal Life
Alexis Ohanian, who helped establish Reddit, is married to Williams. On December 10th, 2016, he took her to Rome and proposed. Williams made the announcement in a Reddit post on December 30, 2016, shortly after they became engaged.
They tied the knot on November 16th, 2017 in the Big Easy. Beyoncé, Anna Wintour, Kelly Rowland, and Kim Kardashian were all in attendance at the wedding. After the wedding, she and Ohanian were going to start a new life in San Francisco.
On April 19, 2017, Williams uploaded a sideways selfie on Snapchat that focused on her tummy with the message “20 weeks,” leading many to speculate that she was pregnant. Her spokeswoman made the announcement that evening.
She won the Australian Open earlier that year when she was eight weeks pregnant, so she was already 20 weeks along when she made the announcement. Williams then explained that she had meant to retain the snapshot for her archives and that its accidental Snapchat sharing was an oversight.
