The first primary ballots were cast at a time when Russian forces were on the outskirts of Kyiv, gas prices were steadily climbing, Roe v. Wade was still on the books, and Queen Elizabeth II was still with us.
On Tuesday, the last primary before Election Day was held, the Russians were already retreating from their offensive in Ukraine, gas prices had been falling gradually, states were approving abortion laws, and a line stretching through London to view the queen’s casket had already begun to develop.
The 2022 primary season kicked up in Texas on March 1 and wound its way around the country over the course of six months, concluding with Delaware, New Hampshire, and Rhode Island after Labor Day.
It included primaries or caucuses in 49 of the 50 states (with an extra primary date in New York, where a court’s reversal of the state’s redistricting map forced a two-month gap between the state’s gubernatorial and congressional primaries).

Who Is Nina Hudson Turner?
On December 7, 1967, in the United States of America, Nina Hudson Turner was born. As a Democrat, she served in the Cleveland City Council from 2006 to 2008 and on the Ohio Senate from 2008 to 2014.
With 35.5% of the vote, Turner was the Democratic contender for Ohio Secretary of State in 2014, however, she ultimately lost to incumbent Jon Husted. Her political leanings have been variously labeled as progressive left-wing or even far-left.
Turner was a supporter of Bernie Sanders’ 2016 presidential campaign and, in 2017, he was elected president of the organization Our Revolution, which is linked with Sanders’ movement.
Her role in Sanders’s 2020 presidential campaign was that of national co-chair. Turner campaigned in the Democratic primary for the 2021 special election for Ohio’s 11th congressional district but lost to Shontel Brown by 5.66 percent of the vote and subsequently conceded the race.
In 2022, Turner made another unsuccessful bid to unseat Brown for the seat, receiving 33.5% of the vote to Brown’s 66.5% in the Democratic primary. Turner’s Unbossed section on the YouTube channel The Young Turks is part of the show’s progressive criticism.
Career
When she first entered the workforce in 2001, she worked as an assistant to then-State Senator Rhine McLin.
Michael R. White, the mayor of Cleveland, was Turner’s employer. Later, she represented the Cleveland Metropolitan School District in state and federal lobbying efforts. In 2001, Turner challenged the longtime councilman Joe Jones for a seat in Cleveland, but Jones won. Jones left his position as a member of the City Council in November of 2004.
In the nine-person, nonpartisan primary election held in September to choose a replacement for Jones, his wife, Tonya Jones, came out on top. Turner became the first African American female Council Member in Ward One after she defeated Tonya Jones in the 2005 election. From 2006 to 2008, Turner was a councilman for the city of Cleveland.

Jeffrey has been a law enforcement professional for over 20 years. Their son, Lieutenant Jeffrey Turner Jr., serves in the Ohio National Guard.
