Born on March 11, 1985, Gregory Walter Olsen is a sports commentator and former NFL tight end for the American football league (NFL). He attended the University of Miami and was picked first overall by the Chicago Bears in the 2007 NFL Draft due to his outstanding college football career.
Olsen also played for the Carolina Panthers, where he earned three Pro Bowl selections and created history by becoming the first tight end in NFL history to have three seasons with 1,000 receiving yards or more. Olsen finished his career with the Seattle Seahawks after the 2020 season.

Early Life
Olsen went to high school in Wayne, New Jersey, where he played football and basketball for Chris Olsen Sr. He was a finalist for the Gatorade Player of the Year award alongside former Miami Hurricane teammate Kyle Wright when he was a senior in high school.
In 2002, as a senior, he was named to the first team of All-Americans by USA Today. He set a new record with 27 career touchdowns, catching 73 passes for 1,474 yards. There, he participated in the 2003 U.S. Army All-American Bowl.

Olsen was chosen by the Bears with the 31st overall choice in the 2007 NFL Draft. On July 3, he became the first player selected in the top 64 in the draught to agree to terms with his team, signing a five-year contract with the club. In 2007, he hurt his knee in the Bears’ final preseason game and missed the first two regular season games while rehabbing.
When he debuted for the NFL team on September 23, 2007, it was against the Dallas Cowboys. He caught two catches for 28 yards in his first game. Two weeks later, in Week 5’s matchup against the Green Bay Packers, Olsen made his first touchdown catch. The season ended with Olsen catching 39 passes for 391 yards and two scores.
During Olsen’s second year in the league, he experienced significantly increased playing time. He was a starter for seven of the team’s 16 games and finished with 54 receptions for 574 yards and five scores.
In addition to being second on the team in receptions and receiving yards, he also led the team in receiving touchdowns. The 2009 Pro Bowl roster includes Olsen as a second alternate. Olsen was honored as Chicago’s Bears’ MVP by local cable provider Comcast SportsNet.
