Regular shows on Disney+ and regular theatrical releases keep the MCU landscape constantly changing. To make matters even more confusing, there are now multiple universes in which we must keep track of our characters. With Thor: Love and Thunder, the hero will be making his ninth appearance on screen, and we can safely say that he’s seen a lot! There are a few things to keep in mind about his current predicament before his latest exploits.
9. Asgard Was Destroyed
Thor (Chris Hemsworth) has spent a lot of time in Asgard during his time in the MCU, where he and other deities like Odin come from. The events of Thor: Ragnarok must have been devastating for the God of Thunder because it was the home of the majority of his family and friends. In the face of Hela, Thor and Loki were forced to unleash the fire demon Surtur. At the end of an epic battle, Asgard was annihilated and Thor could only watch helplessly as it burned to the ground.
8. Valkyrie Is the Ruler of New Asgard
She became Asgard’s new ruler at the end of Avengers: Endgame when Thor told Valkyrie (Tessa Thompson) this. First mistaking Thor’s comment for a joke, Valkyrie finally understood how serious the statement was.
Because he didn’t want to follow the path laid out for him as King of Asgard, Thor refused to accept the mantle of power that came with it. Love and Thunder will feature a lot of changes to New Asgard, which Valkyrie informed Thor about before he left.
7. Mjolnir was Destroyed
With the destruction of the aforementioned Asgard, Thor: Ragnarok was one of the most destructive entries in the Thor franchise to date. In addition, Thor also lost a significant amount of his power. Hela shattered his hammer, Mjolnir, in the process. As Loki so eloquently put it, she was able to smash the “hammer like a piece of glass” with ease.
Jane Foster (Natalie Portman) is seen in the Love and Thunder trailer wielding Mjolnir, which is interesting to note.
6. Thor Now Wields Stormbreaker
Thor was in desperate need of a replacement after misplacing his signature weapon. Stormbreaker is here. Originally intended by the dwarves of Nidavellir to be the greatest weapon ever made, Thor only found the mythical ax when he went hunting for it. Using the help of the Guardians, Thor and Eitri were able to create the mythical ax in Avengers: Infinity War
It is also possible to use Stormbreaker to gain access to the Bifrost, which allows Thor to travel between the Nine Realms via teleportation.
5. Loki is Dead
This long-running love/hate relationship between Thor and Loki on the big screen appears to have come to an end after Avengers: Infinity War. Thanos killed Loki in a valiant final stand. He tried to stab him in the throat after convincing Thanos that he would help him. Unfortunately for Loki, Thanos foresaw this and grabbed him by the throat before he could do any damage. Loki remained defiant as Thanos crushed his neck and dumped his lifeless body at Thor’s feet in his usual manner.
4. Thor is Currently with the Guardians of the Galaxy
The last time we saw Thor was at the end of the Endgame. Valkyrie was crowned King of Asgard by Thor, who then stepped down and boarded the Guardians’ ship, where he embarked on their interplanetary journey.
We don’t know what they were up to between Endgame and Love and Thunder, but the Guardians’ appearance in the upcoming film should provide us with some insight. As far as we know, Starlord and the Guardians of the Galaxy were hoping to locate Gamora. Even if this has no bearing on the plot of the fourth Thor film, we can expect to see some amusing exchanges.

3. Thor’s ‘Dad Bod’
In the wake of all of Thor’s hardships, the character went into a deep depression and was nearly unrecognisable. This was quickly picked up by the internet, who made hilarious jokes about how out of shape Thor looked. Prior to this, the God of Thunder was known for his flawless physique.
In the trailer for Love and Thunder, we get a glimpse of how Thor has evolved from his dad bod phase to a more familiar version of himself. At least now everyone can stop laughing at his jokes and take him more seriously.
2. Korg
Many of Thor’s friends and loved ones have died as a result of the various villains he has faced over the years, but Korg is one of them who has escaped death.
In the gladiator’s quarters of Ragnarok, the two first encountered each other. Since then, Korg and Thor have formed a close bond, with Korg frequently stepping in to assist Thor when the two were in need. Korg
1. Thor and Jane Foster Broke Up
It appeared that Thor and Jane’s relationship was at best rocky following the premiere of The Dark World. For example, Thor didn’t even know where Jane was, confirming that the two were no longer friends. This was confirmed in Ragnarok, but it isn’t clear what the terms of their breakup were, as Thor told Loki it was a mutual decision.
