Priscilla Renea Hairston, formerly Hamilton; born September 14, 1988; professionally known as Muni Long (pronounced “money long”), is an American singer and songwriter who is wed to Masimba Chibanda. In 2009, Capitol Records issued Jukebox, the solo debut studio album by Priscilla Renea. She subsequently spent the next ten years co-writing songs for various recording artists, including the singles “California King Bed” by Rihanna, “Worth It” by Fifth Harmony, “Love So Soft” by Kelly Clarkson, “Imagine” by Ariana Grande, and the international hit “Timber” by Pitbull featuring Kesha.
Career
Returning to her solo career, Hamilton’s second studio album, Coloured (2018), was distributed by Thirty Tigers and Sony Music and featured the Americana and country soul genres.
She achieved significant commercial success as an indie musician after changing her stage name to Muni Long with the song “Hrs and Hrs,” which peaked at number 20 on the Billboard Hot 100. As a result, she signed a record deal with Def Jam Recordings. She was also nominated for a Grammy Award for Album of the Year for her work on H.E.R.’s Back of My Mind (2021).

Muni Long Before and After
She got to work planning her comeback. She explains, “I was simply trying stuff for a second, and nothing was working.” “I had changed my name to Melrose. I released this country song in 2018; let me swap genres and see if it helps. She started another country record after that one didn’t go well, vowing not to try “to please the good, old fellas” this time. But she adds, “Somewhere in that process, it wasn’t clicking.”
Public Displays of Affection, which was released just before Thanksgiving, had “Hrs and Hrs” put on. However, it wasn’t until the end of December that it got to millions of listeners. According to Renea, TikTokers started using the song in videos where they “showed affection and private moments with a significant other.” The song reveals in vivid scenes a passionate relationship. “Hrs & Hrs” entered the Apple Music Top 10 within a week.
Renea’s reinvention has been incredibly successful—so successful that it has begun to confound former partners. In a previous life, she recorded songs with Monica, who is best known for the standards “Before You Walk Out of My Life” and “So Gone.” The R&B veteran was eager to work with what she believed to be a new act and brought Muni Long to Atlanta after hearing her new song, “Sneaky Link.” Long was actually Renea, and Monica didn’t discover this until the two of them left the recording studio and went to Waffle House. Renea has cut tracks for Monica in the past.
