The album spawned the worldwide successful hit “Baby,” which went on to become one of the highest certified singles of all time in the United States, and pushed Bieber’s global fans, known as “Beliebers” — a portmanteau of Bieber and “believer” — to new heights. Under the Mistletoe (2011), his second studio album was the first Christmas album by a male artist to debut at number one in the United States. Justin Bieber Concerts Cancelled Due To Facial Paralysis

Justin Bieber was set to kick off his Justice World Tour with a pair of shows in Toronto this week, but both events, as well as the remainder of the tour, are on hold while Bieber recovers from an illness. He has Ramsay Hunt Syndrome, which involves facial paralysis as a result of the varicella-zoster virus (the same virus that causes chickenpox and shingles) attacking the facial nerve near the inner ear. Bieber stated — and illustrated — that half of his face is currently paralyzed, and that he will be unable to perform as planned in a video message to fans on Instagram.

Here is the complete text of his message:

I wanted to give you all an update on what’s been going on. As you can obviously tell by my face, I suffer from Ramsay Hunt Syndrome. And it’s because of this virus, which has paralyzed my face by attacking the nerves in my ear and my facial nerves. This eye is not blinking, as you can see. On this side of my face, I can’t smile. This nostril is not going to move. As a result, this side of my face is completely paralyzed. So, for those who are irritated by my cancellation of the upcoming events, I’m simply not physically capable of doing them. As you can see, this is a really dangerous situation. I wish this weren’t the case, but my body is clearly telling me that I need to slow down. I hope you understand.

And I’m going to use this time to simply rest and unwind, so I can get back to doing what I was born to do. But, for now, this isn’t it. I need to get some rest so that I can get my face back to normal. I adore you two.

Thank you for your patience with me. And I’m going to grow better at it. And I’m doing all these facial exercises to restore my appearance. and everything will be back to normal. It’s only a matter of time. We don’t sure how long it will take, but it will be OK. And I have hope, I trust God, and I believe that everything is happening for a reason. And I’m not sure what it is right now, but I’m going to relax in the meanwhile, and I love you guys. Peace.
