According to a music licensing agency, Ed Sheeran was the most played musician in the United Kingdom in 2021.
With his chart-topping single ‘Bad Habits,’ Sheeran also had the most played song in the United Kingdom. Sheeran is the most-played artist in the UK for the fourth time in the last five years. With Bad Habits, the singer also had the most-played song of the year.
Sheeran has been crowned the UK’s most-played artist for the fourth time in five years, based on radio, television, pubs, clubs, and retail sales. The artist last topped the most-played song chart with Shape Of You in 2017, for which he just won a copyright case in the High Court.
PPL chief executive Peter Leatham described Sheeran’s sustained success as “a tribute to the quality of his work [and] the power of UK music at a time when the global music environment is more competitive than ever.”

Tickets to see Ed Sheeran have been canceled for NHS employees. Tom Grennan, a Bedford-born singer, may be vying for Sheeran’s crown. The musician, who was just admitted to the hospital after being stabbed in New York, had the second and third most-played songs in 2021.
By Your Side, his Calvin Harris collaboration, came in second, with Little Bit of Love, his solo track, coming in third. Despite the fact that it was released in November 2019, The Weeknd’s Blinding Lights was the fourth most-played song in 2021.
The song, which has sold three million copies in the United Kingdom, was just crowned the greatest hit of all time on the Billboard charts in the United States, surpassing Chubby Checker’s 1960 classic The Twist. Miley Cyrus’ Midnight Sky, a modern spin on Stevie Nicks’ Edge Of Seventeen, earned a ninth place on the UK chart.
Heartbreak Anthem, a duet with Little Mix, and Bed, a collaboration with Raye and Joel Corry, were both in the top ten. He became the second most-played artist in 2021 as a result of his achievement, with Dua Lipa in third place.
Little Mix, who announced an extended break last year, made the top ten for the fifth consecutive year. Pink debuted at number ten, demonstrating the longevity of her previous library on UK radio. The PPL named the American singer the most-played female artist of the twenty-first century in the UK last year.
The organization released its rankings in conjunction with its annual report. It stated it had made a total profit of £252.8 million, which was split amongst 147,000 performers and rightsholders.
