Career
When DeVito graduated, he began working at the ‘Eugene O’Neill Theater Center,’ a theatre company in Waterford, Connecticut. After reading an ad for a role in the film adaptation of ‘In Cold Blood,’ he decided to apply.
On his first tryout in 1978, DeVito was cast as Louie De Palma, the overbearing cab dispatcher in a new “NBC” sitcom called “Taxi.” An Emmy Award for “Best Supporting Actor” was given to him after the show aired for five seasons.

When Rhea Perlman went to see DeVito appear in the play “The Shrinking Bride” with a friend on January 17, 1971, she ran into actress DeVito. The couple had moved in together two weeks after they had started dating. On January 28, 1982, they exchanged vows. Three children are the result of their union.
Reuniting after a divorce in October 2012, they married again in March 2013. They split peacefully for the second time in March 2017 but have said that they will not be filing for divorce.
