This is the biography of retired American professional racing driver Danica Sue Patrick (born March 25, 1982). With one win in the IndyCar Series, she is the most successful female driver in American history. Her 2008 triumph in the Indy Japan 300 is the only one.
By the time she was 10 years old, Patrick had already made a name for herself in the karting world by winning her class three times in the World Karting Association Grand National Championship. With her parents’ consent, she left high school in 1998 to pursue her profession in the United Kingdom. Before returning to the United States in 2001, Patrick raced in Formula Vauxhall and Formula Ford owing to a lack of funds. She raced for Rahal Letterman Racing in five Barber Dodge Pro Series events in 2002. For the next two years, Patrick competed in the Toyota Atlantic Series. In 2004, she finished third in the championship standings and became the first female driver in the series to capture the pole position.
In her debut season with Rahal Letterman Racing in 2005, she equaled Tomas Scheckter’s record of three pole positions, making her one of the most successful rookies in IndyCar history. Both the Indianapolis 500 and the IndyCar Series recognized her Rookie of the Year in 2005. With Rahal Letterman Racing in 2006 and Andretti Green Racing in 2007, she grew as a racer. As a result of her win in Japan, Patrick finished the 2008 season as the sixth-best driver in the world.
