Cooling Bill Assistance Program Opens for Elderly and Medically Homebound in Cleveland

Elderly and Medically Homebound Residents in Cleveland Offered Cooling Bill Assistance

In Cleveland, Brenda Dalin the Program Director at Ninth District Opportunity, Inc. has announced that help with cooling bills will be available again this year for elderly and medically homebound residents in White and other Ninth District counties. Starting April 1 households where everyone is 65 older or where someone is medically homebound due to health reasons can apply for assistance. This aid comes in the form of one-time payments made directly to the home energy suppliers. To qualify households need to meet income eligibility criteria which will be assessed based on the income of all household members.

When applying for assistance individuals will need to provide various documents, including proof of age for all household members, verification of income received in the past 30 days, Social Security numbers for everyone in the home, proof of citizenship and the most recent cooling bill. Dalin emphasized the importance of bringing all necessary documentation, as the organization can no longer obtain this information for applicants. Eligible applicants can schedule appointments starting April 1, 2024 at 8:30 A.M. through Ninth District Opportunity, Inc.’s scheduling system via telephone or online. Walk-ins will not be accepted.
