Senate Bill 10 Amendment Has Been Given Preliminary Approval That Would Gave An Increase Of Pension For Retired Teachers For The First Time In 20 Years. It Would Give 6% Increase For Those Retirees Before 2004 And 4% For Retirees Between 2004 And 2014.

Amending Senate bill Number 10.

 

The total population of retirees is only 475, 000, and the average pension is only $2,174 a month. When they retire, they are only given a “13th check” as they call it. This increase would also give raise in pension to teachers who are still active.

A Senate Hearing is undergoing for the amendment of Retirement benefits for retired teachers. It aims to increase their pension for the first time in 20 years. an increase has been made but in only benefited those who retired before 2004 and the rest was history.

The proposed bill for increasing the amount of pensions per month has been partially approved. It only needs one vote for the final reading. State Rep. John Bryant, D-Dallas, attempted to amend the bill but cut out. The senate bill 10 is amended to pursue the increase to those who retired before 2004 and for those who retired between 2004 to 2014.
