Wilson, Zachary Kapono, was born on August 3, 1999, and plays quarterback for the New York Jets of the National Football League (NFL). He was the most valuable player in two bowl games while playing collegiate football at BYU and was subsequently taken second overall by the Jets in the 2021 NFL Draft.

Wilson played his first game with the Jets against the Carolina Panthers, opposite Sam Darnold, his predecessor on the team. Jets lost 14-19 despite him passing for 258 yards and scoring twice, plus a 2-point conversion on the ground, despite his throwing an interception in the first half.

Career

Wilson threw four interceptions against the New England Patriots in the Jets’ home opener in Week 2. Two of those picks came on his first two pass attempts. The Jets ended up losing by a score of 6-25.

After throwing for 160 yards and two interceptions in a 0–26 defeat to the Denver Broncos in Week 3, Wilson won the first game of his NFL career in Week 4 against the Tennessee Titans.

Wilson passed for 297 yards and two touchdowns while completing 21 of 34 attempts. His 53-yard touchdown pass to wide receiver Corey Davis in the fourth quarter put the Jets ahead to stay; they would go on to win 27-24 in overtime.

Wilson’s Week 5 loss to the Atlanta Falcons saw him throw his ninth interception of the season, joining the ranks of DeShone Kizer, Zach Mettenberger, and Blake Bortles as the only NFL quarterbacks to have been intercepted in each of their first five starts.

Wilson was injured in the second quarter of Week 7’s game against the Patriots after taking a hit from linebacker Matthew Judon. He was taken out of the game due to injury, and Mike White took his place in the 13-54 defeat.

Wilson’s right knee PCL was sprained after the loss, and he missed four games as a result.

In Week 12, Wilson made his triumphant return and led the team to a road victory over the Houston Texans. During the game, he not only made his first tackle but also scored his first running touchdown.

Wilson was winless in his final four games of the season until claiming victory over the Jacksonville Jaguars. Although his turnover ratio was worse, he improved it by not throwing an interception in those five games.

Controversy

After New York Jets quarterback Zach Wilson’s ex-girlfriend commented on a social media post about his romantic life, everyone began saying the same thing.

The Spun reports, “The New York Jets second-year quarterback has been accused of having a connection with his mother’s best friend.” His ex-girlfriend Abbey Gile made the accusation.

In reaction to speculation that she was seeing Wilson’s ex-best friend Dax Milne, Wilson’s ex-girlfriend reportedly leveled the accusation that Wilson was the true “homie hopper.”

After the end of the offseason exercises, Wilson’s teammates have publicly commented that he seems like a new quarterback.

Offense Lineman George Fant Remarked on Wilson

“My guy came back with a little more swag,” as reported by NFL.com. That dude is primed and raring to go. After being drafted second overall, Wilson started 13 games for the New York Jets in his first season.

He had a dismal 55.6 completion percentage and threw for 2,334 yards, 9 TDs, and 11 INTs.

After a year of mastering the Jets’ playbook, head coach Robert Saleh is hoping that Wilson’s accuracy and risk-taking issues would improve.
