The British actor, comedian, writer, and TV host Matthew Richard Lucas was born on March 5, 1974.

Most people recognize him from his work with David Walliams on the BBC sketch comedy series Little Britain (2003–2006, 2020) and the film Come Fly With Me (2010–2011).

During his time on Doctor Who, Lucas played the part of Nardole (2015–2017). His film credits include Paddington (2012), Small Apartments (2012), Bridesmaids (2011), and Alice in Wonderland (2010). (2014). Lucas has been co-hosting The Great British Bake Off with Noel Fielding since the year 2020.

Matt remarked of his flatmate Jamie, “My housemate Jamie is a personal trainer extraordinaire,” in a previous Instagram video.

Jamie Barnard, his roommate, and fellow PT founded the company Positive Mind Personal Training to spread the word about the beneficial effects of leading a healthy lifestyle on one’s mental well-being.

Matt Lucas has lost weight before; he shared a story with The Guardian about a health scare he had in 2009 that inspired him to make a lifestyle change.

He told the newspaper, “I’ve lost a couple of stones, and I need to lose some more. It all fell off in two months. My doctor said if I wasn’t cautious I’d end up with self-inflicted diabetes.”

During this time, Matt must adhere to a strict calorie restriction of 1,500 per day.

Although most people have been impressed by Matt’s amazing makeover, one woman has been very cruel by thin-shaming the comedian.

For the first time in his life, Matt felt like he was being thin-shamed in April of this year when he tweeted, “Shout out to the lady who stopped me at football today to ask me why I’ve lost weight and to inform me I look a lot older.”

Numerous commenters jumped to Matt’s defense, praising him enthusiastically. One said, “I wish I could lose weight and keep it off. I think you look fantastic.,” another joked, “#humblebrag,” to which Matt just remarked, “Very.”

Career

Lucas played the character of Monsieur Thénardier in a fully staged concert production of Les Misérables at the Gielgud Theatre in London’s West End from 10 August 2019 through 30 November 2019.

Actor Gerard Carey was forced to drop out of the part due to vocal damage from pneumonia, but on December 20th, 2019, Lucas returned to the Sondheim Theatre to reprise his performance. On January 10th, 2020, Lucas withdrew from the show due to a back injury.

Taking over for Sandi Toksvig on The Great British Bake Off, he joined the show’s hosting team in March of 2020 on Channel 4 and Love Productions’ hit TV show.

In response to the current COVID-19 outbreak in the United Kingdom, on April 3 Lucas published a new version of his “Baked Potato Song” from Shooting Stars titled “Thank You Baked Potato,” with all sales going to the Feed NHS campaign.

This tune peaked at #34 on the Billboard Hot 100. To further support Feed NHS, Lucas has also written a children’s picture book titled “Thank You, Baked Potato,” published by Egmont.
