Kemper is best known for her appearances as Erin Hannon (2009–2013) and Kimmy Schmidt (2015–2019) on the NBC sitcoms The Office and Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, respectively, for which she received two consecutive nominations for the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series. She’s also been in a number of movies, including Bridesmaids (2011), 21 Jump Street (2012), Sex Tape (2014), and Home Sweet Home Alone (2017). (2021). Controversy

Ellie Kemper, an actress, has issued an apology for attending a debutante ball when she was a teenager, despite the event’s current criticism due to the organization’s dubious history.

Kemper received the title of “Queen of Love and Beauty” at the 1999 Veiled Prophet Ball. The group was established in Missouri in 1878 by ex-Civil War officers.

On Monday, Kemper posted an Instagram message in which she addressed the criticism.
She started off by saying, “When I was 19, I wanted to participate in a debutante ball in my hometown.”

“The century-old group that put on the debutante ball was deeply rooted in racism, sexism, and elitism. Obviously, I can’t use my ignorance of the past as an excuse now, but it was not the case at the time. By the time I became involved, I was old enough to do some research.

White supremacy is something I abhor, repudiate, and reject completely “Keeping talking, she went on. “At the same time, I recognize that I am the recipient of unequal justice and unequal rewards because of my ethnicity and my privilege.”

What’s more, as Kemper continued to say, “To be kind, honest, and welcoming to all people are principles that I hold dearly. I make an effort to guide my daily actions by these principles. A positive interpretation of my experience requires me to accept the idea that institutions and organizations with histories at odds with these ideals ought to be brought to account.”

The group issued its own statement last week, saying, “Our group actively supports and advances these values in this area. We have never worked with or supported a group with racist ideals and will never do so.”

Acting Career

Unbreakable, a Netflix original comedy series, features her as a main cast member. Kimmy Schmidt plays the role of the hapless outsider in this story. She portrays a cult survivor who leaves her tiny town in search of a fresh start in New York City after being abducted and coerced into joining the cult. She has been nominated for the Screen Actors Guild Award and the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series on many occasions for her role on the show.

Kemper joined Al Roker, Natalie Morales, Tamron Hall, and Willie Geist as interim co-hosts of Today throughout the summer of 2015. She was a judge on the 14th season of America’s Got Talent, which aired in 2019.
