SHOWTIME has announced that the highly awaited fifth season of THE CHI will premiere with its first new episode on Friday, June 24th, available for all SHOWTIME subscribers to stream and on-demand before airing on Sunday, June 26 at 9 p.m. ET/PT. Every Friday, a new episode of the fifth season will be available to stream and on-demand. Season four ended with 4.2 million weekly viewers, making it one of the network’s most-watched shows ever. THE CHI (HOMELAND) from 20th Television is currently filming 10 episodes in Chicago.

THE CHI is a relevant coming-of-age narrative centered on a group of citizens on Chicago’s South Side who become linked by chance but bonded by the quest for connection and redemption. Jacob Latimore (Like a Boss), Alex Hibbert (Moonlight), Yolonda Ross (Treme), Shamon Brown Jr., Michael V. Epps, Birgundi Baker, Luke James, and Curtiss Cook are among the season five cast members (West Side Story). Guest performers Kandi Burruss, La La Anthony, Jason Weaver, and Iman Shumpert are set to return, as are previously announced new guest stars Nia Jervier (Dear White People, Twenties) as Tierra, Douda’s poised, polished, and motivated god-niece, whom he recruits for a rebranding push.
Release Date for ‘The Chi’ Season 5
This summer, Showtime will return to the South Side. Season 5 of the Lena Waithe-created drama The Chi will launch at 9 p.m. on the premium cabler. The 24th of June.
Returning guest performers Kandi Burruss, La La Anthony, Jason Weaver, and Iman Shumpert join series regulars Jacob Latimore, Alex Hibbert, Yolonda Ross, Shamon Brown Jr., Michael V. Epps, Birgundi Baker, Luke James, and Curtiss Cook. This season, Nia Jervier and Carolyn Michelle Smith will return, as will L’lerrét Jazelle and Antonyah Allen, while Jewel Coronel has been promoted from co-executive producer to executive producer.

What will be the plot of Chi Season 5
Shortly after the season 4 finale aired, Showtime announced that The Chi has been renewed for Season 5. While speaking with fans, Waithe, the show’s creator, remained tight-lipped regarding the plot of the upcoming season, but we expect it to follow up where the last season left off.
The coming-of-age drama, which was shot in Chicago and produced by 20th Television, follows a group of South Side residents who meet by happenstance but are united by a desire for connection and redemption.
Following Jake’s momentous encounter with a group of cops in Season 4, the show focuses on the benefits and problems of community policing on Chicago’s South Side.
The Chi’s latest season focused on a community movement for police reform after Jake had a violent encounter with some officers. Trig came up with a neighborhood watch program as a remedy, but it’s far from perfect.

Birgundi Baker (Kiesha Williams), Shamon Brown Jr. (Papa), Curtiss Cook (Douda), Michael V. Epps (Jake Taylor), Alex Hibbert (Kevin Williams), Luke James (Trig Taylor), Jacob Latimore (Emmett Washington), and Yolonda Ross are among the cast members of The Chi Season 5. (Jada Washington). La La Anthony (Dom), Kandi Burruss (Roselyn Perry), Iman Shumpert (Rob), and Jason Weaver (Rahsaad “Shaad” Marshall) are among the returning guest stars.
Antonyah Allen, L’lerrét Jazelle (NCIS: Los Angeles), Nia Jervier (Dear White People), and Carolyn Michelle Smith are among the newcomers (House of Cards).
According to reports, Allen will play Simone, a girl who goes to school with Kevin and helps him learn new things. Fatima, a journalist motivated to get to the bottom of a story, will be played by Jazelle. Tierra, Douda’s niece, is played by Jervier, and she will be assisting him in his rebranding efforts. Finally, Smith will play Deja, Shaad’s love interest.
