The very first substantial snowstorm of the season in the United States is in the winter weather forecast, set to impact sparsely inhabited northern regions this week

This impending winter weather forecast is poised to have ramifications across over half a dozen states, potentially causing considerable disruptions to travel, according to AccuWeather. The National Weather Service has also cautioned that certain areas might receive as much as 2 feet of snow.

AccuWeather‘s meteorologist Joseph Bauer recommends taking time at the beginning of the week to make preparations, including unearthing winter weather forecast essentials such as shovels, coats, hats, and gloves. It’s also advisable to ensure the proper functioning of snow removal equipment like snow blowers. Ahead of the storm’s arrival, winter weather forecasts and watches were issued on Monday for sections of the Cascades and northern Rockies.

The Great Falls, Montana weather service office has issued a warning regarding “certain disruptions to daily life,” underscoring the potential for exceedingly challenging or even impossible travel conditions, possibly necessitating tire chains for specific vehicles. Those venturing into backcountry areas should verify their readiness, knowledge, and gear and consider alternate plans.

Approximately 1.3 million individuals reside in areas where some form of winter weather forecast has been issued for the impending storm, according to the weather service

Following the passage of the snowstorm, the winter weather forecast anticipates bitterly cold temperatures in a substantial portion of the northern Rockies and northern Plains later in the week. AccuWeather’s Joseph Bauer notes that “following this storm, an Arctic air mass will introduce the season’s coldest air.” Montana and Wyoming can expect temperature readings 15-35 degrees below the historical average by Thursday night. In the northern Rockies, this could lead to the first sub-zero readings of the season. Throughout the Northwest and northern Plains, it is projected that low temperatures in the single digits and teens will be widespread by late in the week and into the upcoming weekend, marking the chilliest readings since last spring, according to AccuWeather.
