As Thanksgiving week travel kicks off, millions of Americans are bracing for severe weather that could disrupt their holiday plans to reunite with loved ones

On Monday, a staggering 10 million people faced severe storm risks spanning from east Texas to western Alabama, heightening concerns of tornadoes and severe weather disruptions. Louisiana initially bore the brunt, but the threat shifted southeastward into Mississippi and Alabama, intensifying worries of strong, long-lasting tornadoes, particularly after sundown conditions that increase the risk of deadly tornadoes.

Major metropolitan areas like Jackson, New Orleans, and Mobile were in the crosshairs of this severe storm threat, adding to the Thanksgiving week travel woes. This tumultuous weather pattern marks the first significant tornado threat in months across the country.

As the system progresses, the Midwest and Great Lakes regions are also anticipating Thanksgiving week travel delays due to heavy rain

Airports in Chicago, Kansas City, and other major hubs are likely to experience disruptions. The storm system is set to move further east, impacting the Mid-Atlantic and Great Lakes, with New York City issuing Thanksgiving week travel advisories due to expected wet and windy conditions. While the stormy weather poses significant Thanksgiving week travel risks, Thanksgiving Day itself is anticipated to offer relatively pleasant conditions for most parts of the country, with seasonable temperatures and mostly dry weather, offering a reprieve from the Thanksgiving week travel disruptions anticipated throughout the week.
