A notable drop of 10-20 degrees below the typical seasonal norms is expected to chill the region.
Over 200 million residents in the eastern half of the United States are bracing for a blast of below average temperatures this week
The recent powerful storm system that swept across the nation is gradually retreating, though sporadic showers persist until Monday, extending from the Great Lakes area through the Ohio Valley into the Northeast. The FOX Forecast Center warns of a fresh wave of autumnal cold and gusty winds, as high-pressure systems establish themselves from the west while an intensifying storm system looms off the eastern seaboard.
FOX Weather meteorologist Kiyana Lewis emphasizes, “The majority of the eastern U.S. will encounter temperatures significantly below the average in the coming days. Prepare your sweaters and heavier jackets; you’ll need them.” According to the FOX Forecast Center, over 227 million Americans can anticipate below average temperatures on Sunday, with approximately 200 million of them experiencing a 5-degree deviation from the norm.
Expect early morning temperatures to dip into the 40s on Sunday and Monday from the Front Range of the Rockies to the East Coast, with the Gulf Coast being the sole exception
Monday appears even colder for parts of the Mid-South and the Appalachians, with daytime highs struggling to reach the 50s in certain areas. Over 86 million Americans will contend with temperatures at least 10 degrees below average temperatures, almost 9 million facing a 15-degree deficit, and around 1 million enduring temperatures a staggering 20 degrees below the norm.
While temperatures will begin to rebound on Tuesday, over 180 million Americans will still be grappling with the chill, most experiencing at least a 5-degree shortfall. By Wednesday, below average temperatures will persist in the mid-Atlantic and the Southeast, with more than 21 million individuals enduring temperatures at least 5 degrees cooler than usual.
