Memphis, TN – Bitterly cold temperatures are expected across Tennessee tonight as lows plunge into the upper teens and mid-20s. Forecasters warn of hazardous road conditions as melted snow refreezes overnight, creating black ice risks on major roads and highways.
According to the National Weather Service (NWS) Memphis, freezing conditions will impact the region through Sunday morning. Areas most affected include neighborhood streets, bridges, and highways such as I-55 and I-40. Drivers are urged to exercise caution, particularly during early morning hours when icy patches will be difficult to spot.
Saturday night’s forecast predicts clear skies but plummeting temperatures, with Memphis seeing lows near 21°F. Sunday will bring some relief with mostly sunny skies and highs around 39°F, but nighttime temperatures will dip back into the 20s.
A five-day outlook shows continued cold weather:
• Monday: Sunny, high of 35°F, low of 20°F.
• Tuesday: Partly cloudy, high of 35°F, low of 20°F.
• Wednesday: Mostly sunny, high of 39°F, low of 23°F.
• Thursday: Mostly sunny, high of 39°F, low of 30°F.
• Friday: A slight chance of showers, high of 47°F.
Residents are reminded to limit travel tonight unless necessary and to check on vulnerable neighbors, pets, and exposed water pipes. Avoid parking beneath trees or utility lines as freezing conditions persist.
