Charleston, WV – The National Weather Service (NWS) issued a Winter Weather Advisory for portions of West Virginia on Wednesday night, warning of snow accumulation through Thursday morning. Areas could see 2 to 4 inches of snow, with isolated locations receiving up to 5 inches.
According to the NWS, the advisory remains in effect until noon on Thursday. Impacted areas include northeast, northern, and southeast West Virginia, with specific cities like Buckhannon, Elkins, Richwood, and Summersville expected to experience hazardous conditions.
Roads, bridges, and overpasses may become icy and slick as snow continues to accumulate. The advisory warns drivers to expect slippery conditions that could impact the Thursday morning commute. Travelers are urged to slow down and exercise caution while driving.
Additional warnings emphasize icy sidewalks, stairs, and driveways, increasing the risk of falls and injuries for pedestrians. Residents planning to travel should check updated road conditions by calling 511 or visiting the NWS website.
The advisory covers several counties, including Upshur, Barbour, Nicholas, Webster, and Randolph. In Fayette County, snow accumulations are forecasted at 2 to 4 inches, with potential localized disruptions.
