Quad Cities, IA/IL – Snow showers are expected to move into the Quad Cities this afternoon and evening, bringing reduced visibility and slick roadways. Residents are urged to drive cautiously, especially on major routes like Interstate 74, as light snow accumulations could make travel hazardous.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS), scattered snow showers will begin mid-afternoon Friday, continuing into the evening. Accumulations are expected to be less than half an inch, but icy patches could develop, particularly near intersections and stoplights. Northwest winds around 10 mph may add to the challenge, reducing visibility for drivers.

Temperatures will dip to around 15 degrees tonight, with wind chills making it feel even colder. Saturday will see highs near 30 degrees under mostly cloudy skies. However, another chance of snow showers is expected late Saturday night, with freezing rain possibly mixing in. While ice accumulation is unlikely, motorists should stay alert for slick conditions on less-traveled roads.

The weather stabilizes Sunday with a high of 33 degrees under partly sunny skies. The coldest temperatures of the week are forecast for Monday, with lows near 6 degrees and daytime highs struggling to reach 17 degrees. A warming trend begins Tuesday, with sunshine and a high near 16.

Residents should monitor weather updates and prepare for potential disruptions to weekend plans. Carry an emergency kit in your vehicle if traveling, and allow extra time for commutes.
