Wakefield, VA – Drivers in Virginia are urged to exercise caution today as patchy black ice is expected on untreated roadways. Temperatures will climb to the upper 30s to low 40s under sunny skies, but lingering ice from Saturday’s melt remains a concern during the morning hours.
According to the National Weather Service in Wakefield, areas prone to black ice include rural and shaded stretches of roadways, particularly near Louisa, Farmville, and South Hill. Dry conditions and sunshine are expected to improve driving conditions by late afternoon, but freezing temperatures will return tonight, with lows dipping into the teens and 20s.
Monday offers similar weather, with highs around 41 degrees and calm winds. However, the bitterly cold nights will persist, dropping to a low of 19 degrees. Sunshine dominates the early week forecast, providing a break from recent wet conditions, but drivers should remain vigilant for ice patches each morning.
Looking ahead, Tuesday will bring slightly warmer highs near 43 degrees but gustier winds, which may create a wind chill effect. By Wednesday, another cold front moves in, with highs only reaching 27 degrees and lows plunging to 15.
Residents should bundle up and take necessary precautions for freezing overnight temperatures. Keep an emergency kit in your vehicle, particularly for Monday morning commutes, and allow extra time for travel.
