Fort Worth, TX – Freezing conditions across North Texas tonight are expected to create dangerous black ice on major roadways, including I-20, making travel hazardous through Saturday morning. Temperatures will drop into the teens and 20s tonight, quickly freezing any residual water on roads.
According to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Fort Worth, black ice will primarily impact bridges, overpasses, and shaded areas. Travel conditions are not expected to improve until Saturday afternoon when temperatures rise into the 40s. Drivers are urged to reduce speeds, check road conditions, and avoid unnecessary travel during peak icy periods.
The NWS has also issued a hazardous weather outlook for North and Central Texas. Patchy freezing fog may develop overnight, adding to slick road conditions. Areas most affected include the DFW Metroplex, Sherman, and Paris.
Looking ahead, Saturday will bring sunny skies with a high near 46°F, providing some relief as icy spots begin to thaw. Sunday is expected to be similarly sunny with a high of 45°F, while Monday and Tuesday promise slightly warmer conditions with highs approaching 50°F.
Officials recommend using extra caution on roadways and ensuring your vehicle is winter-ready. Pedestrians should also be mindful of slippery sidewalks and parking lots. Stay tuned for further updates as weather conditions evolve.
