Spartanburg, SC – Motorists in Upstate South Carolina should prepare for slick and icy road conditions tonight as temperatures dip into the teens. Any residual moisture from Saturday’s thaw is expected to refreeze overnight, creating hazardous black ice, particularly on bridges, overpasses, and shaded areas.
According to the National Weather Service Greenville-Spartanburg, the greatest threat for black ice persists through early Monday morning. Drivers are advised to slow down and allow extra distance between vehicles, especially when navigating major routes like I-85 and I-26. Pedestrians should also take caution on sidewalks and steps.
Sunday will bring clear skies and a high near 40°F, with calm winds and sunshine aiding in some thawing during the day. By Monday, expect slightly warmer temperatures, reaching a high of 46°F with mostly sunny skies. Tuesday and Wednesday will see continued sunny conditions with highs hovering in the mid-40s. Overnight lows throughout the week will remain below freezing, between 20°F and 25°F, increasing the potential for morning ice.
As the week progresses, dry conditions are expected to continue until Friday, when scattered showers are possible. Residents should remain vigilant during the early mornings for icy patches, especially after overnight freezing.
For now, ensure your vehicle is winter-ready and drive cautiously during the next few mornings. Stay tuned for weather updates and avoid unnecessary travel in high-risk areas tonight.
