Indianapolis, IN – Snowfall across central Indiana is tapering off, but residents should prepare for freezing rain Sunday night into Monday. This weather pattern could create hazardous road conditions, especially on major routes such as I-65 and I-70.
According to the National Weather Service in Indianapolis, the snow that fell overnight is being replaced by light flurries Saturday. A quick-moving system is expected to bring freezing rain starting late Sunday afternoon into the evening. Drivers should expect icy roadways, with reduced traction making travel potentially dangerous. The weather service has advised motorists to monitor updates and avoid unnecessary travel during peak icy conditions.
Looking ahead, subzero wind chills are forecast Monday night into Wednesday. Overnight lows could drop as low as 6°F Monday night, with wind gusts reaching 18 mph. Daytime highs early in the week will hover in the teens and 20s, making for frigid conditions. Residents are urged to take precautions against frostbite and hypothermia if outdoors for extended periods.
Beyond the freezing rain and icy weather, conditions are expected to improve slightly midweek, with partly sunny skies Tuesday and Wednesday. However, the cold temperatures will persist, with Tuesday night potentially reaching a low of 1°F.
