Champaign, IL – Snowfall across central Illinois Friday is expected to create hazardous road conditions along major highways, including I-55 and I-57. Residents should prepare for 2 to 4 inches of snow accumulation, with slick roads likely during morning and evening commutes.

According to the National Weather Service, snow will begin late Thursday night west of I-55 and continue through midnight Friday east of I-57. A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect from Jacksonville to Bloomington, warning of dangerous travel conditions on untreated or less-traveled roads. Drivers are urged to exercise caution and allow extra time for travel.

The heaviest snow is expected Friday morning, impacting cities like Springfield, Decatur, and Champaign. Winds will remain light but could lead to drifting snow on open roadways. Temperatures will hover around 29°F during the day before dropping to 16°F Friday night.

Looking ahead, the forecast for Saturday calls for mostly sunny skies with highs near 26°F, providing a brief reprieve before temperatures dip into the teens overnight. Sunday will bring partly cloudy conditions, with a high near 32°F and calmer winds.
