Pittsburgh, PA – Snowfall of up to 3 inches is expected across western Pennsylvania overnight into Thursday morning. The National Weather Service issued a Winter Weather Advisory through noon on Thursday for the region.
According to the NWS, areas including Venango, Forest, and Preston counties will see heavy snow and wind chills in the negative single digits. Snow-covered roads and icy conditions are anticipated to impact the Thursday morning commute. Drivers should expect delays and exercise caution while traveling.
The advisory extends to higher elevations in Westmoreland, Fayette, and Indiana counties, where snowfall totals are expected to reach up to 3 inches. Wind chills could lead to frostbite or hypothermia for those without proper precautions.
Residents are urged to stay indoors overnight and avoid unnecessary travel. The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation encourages motorists to check road conditions by dialing 511 before heading out.
The cold front moving through the region has already brought freezing temperatures and strong winds, making the conditions even more challenging. Reports of snow accumulations can be shared with the National Weather Service on social media or by calling their hotline at 412-262-1988.
Temperatures are expected to remain frigid into Thursday, with the wind chill making it feel even colder. Those venturing outside should dress in layers and cover exposed skin.
This Winter Weather Advisory underscores the importance of preparation as western Pennsylvania faces its coldest night of the season.
