Wilmington, OH – A blast of arctic air will bring frigid temperatures and dangerously low wind chills to Ohio starting Tuesday. Residents are urged to prepare for bitter conditions that could result in frostbite within minutes of exposure. According to the National Weather Service (NWS) Wilmington, wind chills may dip as low as -15 degrees on Wednesday morning, making outdoor activities hazardous.
Sunday will bring partly sunny skies with highs near 33 degrees, offering a brief reprieve before the bitter cold arrives. Overnight lows Sunday will fall to the mid-teens, with increasing cloud cover leading into Monday. Monday’s high will reach only 28 degrees, with winds increasing in the evening and temperatures plummeting overnight into the single digits.
By Tuesday, the coldest air of the season will settle in. Highs will barely reach 15 degrees, with wind speeds creating subzero wind chills throughout the day. Wednesday morning is expected to be the coldest, with wind chills ranging from -10 to -15 degrees.
The extended forecast shows slightly warmer temperatures by Thursday and Friday, with highs reaching the upper teens to low 20s. Partly cloudy skies are expected, but frigid mornings with wind chills below zero will persist.
The NWS advises layering clothing, limiting time outdoors, and ensuring pets are brought inside. Homeowners should check pipes to prevent freezing and monitor local forecasts for updates.
