Gaylord, MI – Residents in northern Michigan should prepare for lake effect snow tonight, which could bring 2-4 inches of additional accumulation to Antrim and Kalkaska counties. Hazardous road conditions and reduced visibility are expected through Saturday morning.
According to the National Weather Service, snowfall will intensify after 7 p.m. tonight and persist until 7 a.m. Saturday. Drivers on US-131 and nearby routes should use caution, as slick, snow-covered roads are likely during both the evening and morning commutes. Winds of up to 12 mph may worsen visibility in localized snow belt regions.
The weekend forecast shows scattered snow showers Saturday, with temperatures reaching 28°F during the day and dropping to 18°F at night. A calm period is expected Saturday night before another system arrives Sunday, bringing widespread snow and a potential for 2 inches of new accumulation by evening.
This active weather pattern will continue into next week, with lake effect snow likely Monday and Tuesday. Temperatures will remain cold, ranging from highs in the mid-20s to lows near 10°F.
Residents are advised to monitor updates from local meteorologists and prepare for winter driving conditions throughout the weekend. Stock emergency kits for vehicles and avoid unnecessary travel in snow belt regions, especially tonight and early Saturday morning.
