Fort Worth, TX — Freezing fog and black ice are creating hazardous travel conditions across North Texas, with a weather advisory in effect until 9 a.m. Saturday. Residents are urged to avoid driving overnight as untreated bridges, overpasses, and roads are expected to remain dangerously slick.
According to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Fort Worth, visibility has dropped below three miles in affected areas, including portions of Interstate 20. Black ice has already begun forming, further complicating travel. Surfaces may freeze quickly, creating hidden dangers for drivers.
Temperatures will remain in the mid-20s overnight, rising to near 49°F by Saturday afternoon. Sunday will be sunny with a high of 46°F, while lows remain in the 20s. The warming trend will continue into next week, with highs reaching the low 50s by Tuesday.
Motorists should use extreme caution, drive slowly, and leave extra distance between vehicles. NWS recommends using low-beam headlights and avoiding travel if possible during the advisory. Conditions are expected to improve late Saturday morning as temperatures rise and the fog dissipates.
Looking ahead, Fort Worth residents can expect sunny skies through Tuesday, but another potential freeze may develop Wednesday night as temperatures dip to 33°F.
