Jackson, MS – Drivers in northern Mississippi should remain cautious as patchy black ice is expected early Saturday, creating hazardous conditions, particularly on bridges and overpasses. Morning temperatures in many areas will stay below freezing, making travel challenging.
According to the National Weather Service, patchy black ice has been reported in areas along U.S. Highway 82, including Greenwood and Columbus. This limited threat will persist until about 9 a.m. Saturday as standing water freezes. The NWS advises extreme caution on untreated surfaces. Temperatures are forecast to rise into the mid-40s later today, clearing most ice risks by mid-morning.
For the weekend, Saturday afternoon will see partly sunny skies with highs near 44 degrees. Sunday brings warmer conditions, with highs reaching 55 degrees and increasing clouds throughout the day. A 50% chance of rain is expected Sunday night, primarily after midnight, as a cold front begins to move through the area.
Looking ahead, Monday will see partly sunny skies with highs near 48 degrees. Tuesday’s forecast includes highs around 49 and partly sunny skies, while Wednesday is expected to be mostly sunny and slightly warmer, with highs near 52.
Residents are encouraged to check road conditions before traveling, especially in northern counties. Continue monitoring local forecasts for updates on potential freezing conditions and upcoming rain.
