Minneapolis, MN – Snowfall and strong winds are set to create hazardous conditions across Minnesota this weekend, especially along Interstate 94. Residents can expect 2 to 4 inches of snow and gusts up to 35 mph starting Sunday morning.
According to the National Weather Service, light snow will spread across the region Saturday evening, becoming heavier overnight and tapering off Sunday morning. Combined with gusty northwest winds, blowing snow will reduce visibility and create challenging travel conditions. Officials warn that wind chills could drop as low as -15 to -25 degrees Sunday night into Monday, raising concerns for frostbite and hypothermia.
Residents should prepare for slow travel on Sunday, especially in central Minnesota and areas north of I-94. Authorities recommend limiting outdoor activities and ensuring vehicles are equipped with emergency supplies.
Looking ahead, the bitter cold will persist into Monday, with temperatures struggling to rise above zero. Wind chills will again drop into the -25 range Monday night. By Tuesday, sunshine will return, but highs will only reach 7 degrees. A slight warming trend is expected mid-week, with temperatures climbing into the low 20s by Wednesday.
The Minnesota Department of Transportation advises checking 511mn.org for up-to-date road conditions and allowing extra time for commutes.
Stay safe by bundling up and avoiding unnecessary travel as these hazardous conditions persist through Monday.
