Baltimore, MD – A winter storm is bringing snow and gusty winds to parts of Maryland, Virginia, and West Virginia. The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Weather Advisory, in effect until 7 p.m. Saturday.
According to the National Weather Service, the storm will deliver 2 to 4 inches of snow, with localized amounts reaching 6 inches in higher elevations. Winds could gust up to 40 mph, creating blowing snow and hazardous travel conditions.
The advisory includes Garrett County in Maryland, Western Highland County in Virginia, and Western Grant and Western Pendleton Counties in West Virginia. Snowfall began Friday evening and will continue into Saturday, transitioning to upslope snow showers during the day. Blowing snow is likely to cause significant drifting, further complicating road conditions.
Officials urge drivers to slow down and exercise caution as icy and slick roadways, particularly bridges and overpasses, are anticipated. Pedestrians should also be cautious of slippery surfaces, including sidewalks and stairs.
Travelers should prepare for reduced visibility due to blowing snow. Those venturing out should allow extra time and remain alert. The latest road conditions can be obtained by dialing 511 in the affected states.
Light snow is expected to taper off by Saturday evening, but strong winds may persist, keeping conditions challenging. Residents are advised to stay indoors when possible and avoid unnecessary travel during the storm.
