Southwest Kansas residents can expect milder weather this weekend as temperatures climb into the 40s, bringing rapid snowmelt and sunny skies. On Friday, highs remain in the 30s across Dodge City and surrounding areas, but warmer conditions will settle in starting Saturday.

According to the National Weather Service in Dodge City, Friday brings sunny conditions with a high near 32°F. North winds of 7-13 mph will keep the chill in the air. Saturday marks the start of warmer weather, with increasing clouds and a high near 41°F as west winds shift south, blowing at 6-9 mph. By Sunday, sunshine returns, and temperatures peak at 39°F, offering a pleasant weekend for outdoor activities.

The five-day forecast shows continued warming into next week. Monday stays mostly sunny with a high of 38°F, while Tuesday climbs to 41°F under clear skies. Midweek highs may approach the upper 40s, signaling a reprieve from January’s usual chill.

For travelers, conditions will remain calm across major routes, including U.S. 283 and U.S. 54. However, motorists should remain alert for patchy snow early Saturday morning, especially near Liberal and Pratt, where 1-2 inches of snow may linger.

Residents are encouraged to use the warm weekend to clear driveways and sidewalks of any remaining ice. No hazardous weather is expected in the coming days, according to the National Weather Service, making this a perfect opportunity to enjoy the outdoors safely.

Stay updated with local forecasts as next week progresses, especially as temperatures continue their gradual climb.
